In order for me to evaluate your IDS final presentation. I will need the following.
1) Artifacts of Learning - In some cases, these will be poster boards that you should take to room. In other cases, you will need to rely more heavily on photos and your written self-evaluation. In both cases, I want several photos. 2) Self-Evaluation IDS 11 –Final/ Self-Evaluation STATION VISUAL APPEAL /4 Did your station attract people to it? As you know, the big day is quickly approaching! May 30th is the IDS Fair.
Please write a blog by Saturday, May 4th at midnight. You should answer the following questions in your blog: What information will you present at the IDS fair? How will you present it? For example, you may display your information on a poster board with visuals. Congratulations, IDS 11, on presenting outstanding work at the IDS Fair. You demonstrated that you have learned an extraordinary amount through your work. A teacher cannot help but be proud. DESCRIPTION OF IDS 11 AT THE MIDYEAR EXPERIENCE WEEK FAIR This year the theme for the Midyear experience week was Own Your Journey, and that is exactly what the Grade 11 IDS students did . Their projects involved city planning, interior design, sleep research, environmental studies, stocks, animation, and the list goes on. The common thread that linked all of these projects is passion. So no matter how diverse these projects seemed to be, remember at the heart of each one was passion. The projects that the IDS 11students presented wowed elementary and secondary students alike. There was not one IDS 11 student who could not explain what they have learned during the past few months, and this was evident in student displays. On behalf of the IDS 11 students, Ms. Beamish (I) would like to thank Ms. Parashar for her tireless work in hosting multiple events in the Creative Commons, and providing IDS 11 students with a platform to show their learning. Finally, Maddi Vaisbord, did an outstanding job as the student who planned the overall IDS 11 Midyear Fair. Happy New Year! Welcome back. Please make sure that you read to the bottom of this blog entry to see today's very brief assignment. As you are most likely aware by now, you will be presenting your projects on Friday, February 1 during the experience week. The theme is Own Your Journey, which gels well with the IDS philosophy and the work you have been doing. Presenting at this time gives you more time to prepare, and I believe that you will have more time to present to a diverse group of learners. Depending on your unique journey, this event may be challenging you, I understand that you are only halfway through your project, and that some topics lend themselves more easily to these sorts of presentations. If this is the situation you find yourself in, I would suggest focusing on a facet of your learning that you find interesting and that you know others will find interesting. Examples are: - Mischa's Climate Change (Goodbye Richmond Map) - Ruby's Dresser (Finish finishing it, and describe the process) - Gazel's Poetry (Maybe present favourite poems by favourite authors, and/or talk about self-publishing) - Navjeet and Shirley's Film Project (could edit and play what film you have on a loop at the IDS fair) - Rita (sleep study based on your classes sleep habits) These are all just suggestions. The above people can make other choices. Remember own your journey. Evaluation At this point in time, I am looking largely at evaluating you on your presentation skills in terms of 1. INVITATION TO VIEW - When I walk by your station, is there something that grabs my eye, something visually appealing? I should be thinking, hey, I just have to see this station. 2. ENGAGEMENT - Okay, you have me! I am standing in front of your station. Will I leave or stay? This depends on a few factors. Is your presentation interesting? Does your presentation make sense? Are you communicating clearly? Having students interact with your presentation helps. Remember the soap story. 3. DEPARTURE - Okay, I have heard what you have had to say and seen what you have to show, Do I leave "wowed" or at least thinking, that was really interesting, I would like to learn or more about that. You will also be evaluated on your content and effort. Please let me know if you think that you should be evaluated on something that I have not mentioned. ASSIGNMENT FOR JANUARY 14th - Please write a brief blog letting me know what you intend to present on. Also state, whether or not you have let Maddi know what will you need. This is due at the beginning of class on January 16th. By the beginning of next week, you are expected to have completed your community connections blog for the month of November.
Please begin by creating a new tab on your Weebly website. The tab should be under your grade 11 section and called community connections. What counts as a community connection? Basically any extracurricular activity you take part in at school is a community connection. Some examples are playing on a team and/or participating in a club. Furthermore, if you are part of a sports team or volunteer outside of school this counts as a community connection. Being a member of a gym or taking music lessons is a community connection. Your blog should be called November Community Connections. 1. List all the activities you participated in the month of November under the heading "November Activities." You may list these activities in point form. For each activity, include, when, where and how often you took part in the named activity. 2. Choose one of these activities and answer the following question: What do I give of myself when I do _______________? Your answer should be 250 words and you should include one picture. Hints: - What skills do you offer? (Describe) - What is the opportunity cost? In other words, what else could you be doing with this time? If there are financial costs, what else could you be doing with this money? - Do you help other people? How do you help other people? Does your activity require focus and attention? Does this activity involve practice? How often do you practice? What is the opportunity cost of practice? 3. Choose the same activity that you did in number 2 and answering the following: What do I get for myself when I do__________________? Your answer should be 250 words and you should include one picture. Hints: - What skills do you develop? (Describe) - What makes this activity worthwhile? (worth the opportunity cost) - What have you learned from your involvement in this activity? _ Can you teach others what you have learned? - Does this activity enhance your self-esteem? CRITERIA The assignment should meet the length requirement above, and you should answer each of the questions thoughtfully and reflectively. While this is not meant to be a great literary work, your answers should be grammatically correct and properly punctuated. You should have no spelling errors. When we write on blogs, our information is published, usually for the world to see, so it is important to avoid errors that can be prevented from proofreading. Your should print out a hard copy of your blog and give it to me at the beginning of the first class next week. On Tuesday, each of you wrote a goal for the week. We roughly estimated that it should take about two hours of your time. If you can put more time into your project over the weekend, this would be helpful. Many of you wrote in your previous blog on trouble shooting that you have problems with procrastination.
After you work on this goal, you are to blog about. If you do not succeed in reaching your goal, blog about and explain why. If you are successful, blog about what you have done and if possible share a picture or multiple pictures. Your blog is due at the beginning of class on Tuesday. If you submit it late, you will lose marks - possibly all marks. Reaction to Your Blogs on Trouble Shooting Your class identified four problems that may hold you back in your IDS projects. They are 1) Procrastination 2) Perfectionism 3) Time Management 4) Losing Interest in the IDS project. We will work through these problems this year. I believe that weekly goal setting will help keep you on task. I also recommend that you do as much as you can on your projects when you have periods of time where your schedule is not as tight. Remember, we will not have class time once we started coding in the new year. I enjoy reading your blogs and I believe they inform my practice as a teacher. Your project proposals are due by October 12th. This what you should include:
1. a picture of yourself 2. a paragraph describing your project 3.a good inquiry based question related to your project (one that leads to more questions) 4.resources and materials 5. monthly goals EVALUATION How will you know if you are successful? How do you think others should evaluate you? |
